COLLAB X SUVI-EEVA ÄIKÄS
Recently, I have been collaborating with some brilliant artists. Here is a Q&A with Suvi-Eeva Äikäs who created the vocals for Prana, my lastest single, releasing on 13.09.19.
Working with choreographers Dickson MBI and Brooke Milliner for the dance commission for Fiya House we wanted to create haunting vocals at the opening of the track and I remembered some of the clips Suvi had shared with me of her work. Loving the vocals Suvi sent over, they became more of a feature of the whole track. I used electronic manipulations in some of the darker places and I think my favourite part is still the vocals and piano at the end of the track.
Where did you meet Alexandra?
“We met at the Women Composers' Forum in London for the first time and it was a blast. Really lovely to meet so many talented people in the same room.
Long story short, that was how I ended up bringing vocals to this piece by Alex and it was great to collaborate on something different.”
Tell us a bit more about you…
“I've been involved in the film & TV world as a composer assistant and composer for about three years now and I've been lucky to have been involved in so many brilliant projects. Most recent one is Alex Garland's new tv-series Devs and then we just started working on the second series of Hanna (Amazon Prime).”
What are you up to at the moment?
“I've been using my vocal chords as an instrument for a few projects, but I'm really excited about having this voice used in the aforementioned Devs-series. I’ve recently worked on a nature documentary and in the process of making some music outside the film/TV world. And then there was Prana. Alex was so quick to finish such a long piece as well! She sent me a clip of the dance piece that it was used for and it looked and sounded absolutely amazing."
